Visit a Mini Museum – Backstreet Cultural Museum
The Backstreet Cultural Museum is located in a small, former funeral home in the historic Treme neighborhood. The museum displays the permanent collection of Mardi Gras Indians costumes, second-line parade outfits, jazz funeral photos, and music memorabilia from curator Sylvester Francis. Jackson Square is an area where you’ll see tarot readers, street performers, and artists. It has an open-air artist community where their works are hung on the iron railings around the square. Local filmmakers are showcased during the festival, and their films and any shown during NOFF can qualify for the Oscars in all three Academy-accredited categories: Narrative Short, Documentary Short, and Animated Short.
