Veterans have a higher lifetime prevalence and many risk factors that increase their odds of homelessness compared with the general population.24 Some of these risk factors include adverse childhood experiences, depression, PTSD, and lower educational attainment.²⁴ Schizophrenia and neurodegenerative disorders have also been associated with homelessness in veterans.^25,26 VA programs focused on case management services and temporary housing are working to lessen the burden of homelessness.²⁷
