Does Fluoroscopic Guidance Make Sense for Bursitis Injections?
Fed Pract. 2009 June;26(6):E1
Corticosteroid injections can give dramatic relief to people with trochanteric bursitis and enhance recovery. Some studies have shown that fluoroscopy is needed to guide correct placement of the needle—in fact, one study found that only 45% of injections that are not guided by fluoroscopy actually end up in the bursa. The data are sparse, however, on whether
fluoroscopic guidance affects patient outcomes.
