HIV/AIDS has been a major worldwide health problem for more than 20 years. With the remarkable success of newer antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens and their ability to achieve durable suppression of HIV replication, HIV infection has been transformed into a chronic, manageable disease.1 For patients with HIV infection in the United States, the availability of effective antiretroviral therapy has completely changed the course of this illness.
