Depression Undertreated in Black, Hispanic Patients With Diabetes

Key clinical point: Depression might be undertreated in low-income and uninsured type 2 diabetes patients, especially those who are racial and ethnic minorities.

Major finding: Black and Hispanic adults with type 2 diabetes were significantly less likely than were white patients to be taking antidepressants (adjusted odds ratios of 0.31 and 0.26, respectively).

Study details: The data come from a study of 403 adults with type 2 diabetes, 58% of whom were non-Hispanic white, 18% were non-Hispanic black, and 24% were Hispanic.
