Twenty years, thousands of women, and hundreds of scientific papers after it began, the largest and longest-running study to investigate the impact of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) on women in the U.S. is celebrating its platinum anniversary.
Every 6 months since 1993, researchers for the Women’s Interagency HIV Study (WIHS) have made study visits to Chicago; Los Angeles; New York City; San Francisco; Washington, DC; and other sites to interview women about their health and behavior and conduct clinical and laboratory tests.
