sanofi-aventis and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc, announce US Food and Drug Administration approval of Dupixent (dupilumab) for adolescent patients aged 12 to 17 years with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD) whose disease is not adequately controlled with topical prescription therapies or when those therapies are not advisable. Dupixent is a targeted biologic therapy that inhibits signaling of IL-4 and IL-13, which play a role in the inflammation underlying AD. It reduces the extent and severity of AD and itching. The cash-pay prescription program gives patients access to treatments for acne, actinic keratosis and superficial basal cell carcinoma, barrier repair (eg, eczema treatments), wounds, and corticosteroid-responsive diseases and atopic dermatitis at a fixed price without the need for insurance, co-pay cards, or prior authorizations. After the physician issues an e-prescription, the product is shipped to the patient's home within 48 hours.
