Depression affects nearly a quarter of active-duty service members and veterans worldwide.1 Common comorbidities in patients with depression include generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, and panic disorder.2 Additionally, depression—and especially treatment-resistant depression (TRD)—has a high economic burden, with health care costs reaching nearly $20,000 per patient per year.3 New research aims to identify genes associated with depression as well as treatments that may be effective in veterans.3-5
