Survival at ‘overweight’ BMI surpasses ‘normal’
Key clinical point: The optimal body mass index for survival in middle-aged adults is 25-29 kg/m2.
Major finding: People with a body mass index of 25-29 kg/m2 had significantly better survival than people with an index of 20-24 kg/m2.
Study details: PURE, a multinational, prospective, observational study that, for this analysis, included data from 142,410 people.
