Consider This Method to Measure JAK2 Status in MF
Leuk Res; 2017 Dec; Strati, Benton, et al
Saliva testing is an easier and possibly more reliable method than peripheral blood for measuring JAK2 status and assessing V617F allelic burden in transfusion-dependent patients with myelofibrosis (MF), according to a prospective study involving 167 individuals. Investigators used both methods simultaneously on participants who had MF. Among the results:
- Concordance between the 2 methods was 96%.
- Sensitivity and specificity were 100% and 90%, respectively.
- Ongoing transfusion dependency was the only factor linked with false positive results from saliva testing.
