Key clinical point: Men with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), especially ulcerative colitis, are at an increased risk of incident prostate cancer (PCa).

Major finding: The risk of PCa was higher in men with IBD (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 1.31; P = .029). PCa risk was especially increased in men with ulcerative colitis (aHR, 1.47; P = .0070) and not Crohn’s disease (aHR, 1.06; P = .82).

Study details: This population-based UK Biobank cohort study included 218,084 men (aged 40-69 years; 2,311 men with and 215,773 men without a history of IBD) between 2006 and 2010.
