Predicting Survival in HF Patients with an ICD
J Card Fail; ePub 2017 Nov 22; Alba, et al
The Heart Failure Meta-Score provides an accurate assessment of survival in heart failure (HF) patients treated with implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a recent study found. The study aimed to validate a meta-analytically-derived prognostic score to predict survival in ICD-HF patients. The HF Meta-Score performance was evaluated in comparison to the Seattle Heart Failure Model (SHFM) and the SHOCKED predictors in a cohort of 9,860 ambulatory ICD patients from 2007-2011. Among the findings:
- During 3-year follow-up, 1,816 patients died.
- The HF Meta-Score demonstrated excellent calibration, good discrimination (c-statistic 0.74), and enhanced risk classification when compared to the SHOCKED predictors.
- It also showed better reclassifying in 19% and 56% of patients for 1 and 3-year survival, respectively.
- HF Meta-Score performance was similar to the SHFM.
