You are examining a 17-year-old high school football player. In last Friday’s game, he was tackled from the right, causing him to have acute onset of numbness and weakness in his right arm. The symptoms resolved spontaneously over a period of several minutes while he was being assessed on the sidelines by his trainer. The athlete has no history of previous similar injury.

During your physical examination of the athlete, he has normal function of both arms; equal muscle strength; full, pain-free range of motion; no neck pain; normal neck examination findings; and normal neurologic examination findings.
