Single-Fraction Radiation Misses Mark for Spinal Compression Relief
Key clinical point: Single-fraction radiation was not noninferior to 5-fraction radiation for treatment of spinal compression at 8 weeks.
Major finding: Among patients in the single-fraction arm, 69.3% had good ambulatory status at 8 weeks, vs. 72.7% of patients in the multi-fraction arm.
Study details: SCORAD trial, a randomized noninferiority trial of 686 patients with spinal compression from metastatic cancers.
Disclosures: Cancer Research UK and Cancer Council Queensland funded the trial. Dr. Hoskin reported being supported by the National Institute for Health Research Manchester Biomedical Research Centre.
