Ten-Year Results Support Partial Breast Irradiation

Key clinical point: For patients with early, low-risk breast cancer, partial breast irradiation may be considered a standard alternative to whole breast irradiation.

Major finding: Accelerated partial breast irradiation was associated with a 10-year ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR) rate of 3.9%, compared with 2.6% for those who received whole breast irradiation; however, this difference was not statistically significant (P = .39).

Study details: APBI IMRT Florence is a phase III trial involving 520 patients with breast cancer.

Disclosures: The investigators reported no disclosures.
