Congenital Hyperinsulinism International (CHI) has issued a statement encouraging widespread adoption of recommendations published recently by the Pediatric Endocrine Society regarding evaluation and management of persistent hypoglycemia in neonates, infants, and children. In a survey conducted by CHI, 60% of the infants with congenital hyperinsulinism were not diagnosed during the newborn period. Failure to identify this condition can lead to brain damage or death.
