MS prevalence estimates reach highest point to date

Key clinical point: The prevalence of multiple sclerosis (MS) has risen over the last 5 decades, culminating in the highest estimate yet for 2010.

Major finding: The 2010 prevalence for MS cumulated over 10 years was 309.2 per 100,000 population (95% confidence interval, 308.1–310.1).

Study details: An analysis of private, military, and public administrative health claims via a validated algorithm plus 2010 U.S. Census data.
