Mediterranean diet improves cognition in patients with type 2 diabetes

Key clinical point: For patients with type 2 diabetes, a Mediterranean-style diet may be preferable to other healthy diets in improving cognition.

Major finding: A Mediterranean-style diet was associated with improved global cognition scores over 2 years in patients with type 2 diabetes (P = .016).

Study details: Longitudinal, observational study of 1,499 Puerto Rican adults living in the United States, of whom 913 had type 2 diabetes.
