AMA President Ponders Post-Election Action


 

While health care is just one topic on the agenda this election season, doctors eagerly await answers to a number of important questions.

What will happen with the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula? Without Congressional intervention, the SGR will cut 27% out of Medicare physician fees on Jan. 1. The physician community is calling out for a permanent fix, rather than the incremental adjustments they’ve seen for several years.

Meanwhile, doctors are also faced with increasing uncertainty about the future of Medicare and Medicaid, coupled with increased regulation in areas like electronic prescribing and quality reporting.
