Certain statins linked to lower mortality risk in patients admitted for sepsis

Key clinical point: Among individuals admitted to hospitals with sepsis, statin users had a lower mortality, compared with nonstatin users.

Major finding: Differences in mortality favored statin users versus nonstatin users, with hazard ratios of 0.79 (95% confidence interval, 0.77-0.82) and 0.79 (95% CI, 0.77-0.81) at 30 and 90 days, respectively.

Study details: The retrospective cohort study including 137,019 patients admitted for sepsis, of whom 36,908 were taking statins.
