Appendix may be common site of endometriosis

Key clinical point: Among women who had a coincidental appendectomy during surgery for chronic pelvic pain or endometriosis, about 15% had appendiceal endometriosis confirmed by pathological examination.

Major finding: In 74% of patients with appendiceal endometriosis, the appendix looked normal during surgery.

Study details: A retrospective study of 609 coincidental appendectomies performed during surgery for chronic pelvic pain or endometriosis.
