Near-hanging injuries: Critical care, psychiatric management

Key clinical point: Cardiac arrest is the cause of half of in-hospital deaths after near-hanging injury.

Major finding: Among all survivors, 450 (50.8%) had hanging-induced cardiac arrest and of these, 371 (95.4%) eventually died.

Study details: A retrospective analysis spanning 23 years (1992-2014) that included 886 adult patients who were admitted to 31 ICUs.
