Biologic aging is associated with MS disability progression

Key clinical point: Telomere length, a marker of biologic aging, correlates with multiple sclerosis disability independent of chronological age.

Major finding: After adjusting for age, disease duration, and sex, every 0.2-unit decrease in telomere length was associated with a score increase of 0.27 on the Expanded Disability Status Scale.

Study details: A cohort study of 516 adults with multiple sclerosis or clinically isolated syndrome.

Disclosures: The study was funded by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
