Migraine frequency higher in Meniere's disease

Key clinical point: The frequency of migraine is higher in patients with Meniere's disease (MD) than normal individuals; a positive family history of migraine is a significant determinant of migraine prevalence in MD.

Major finding: Patients with MD had a significantly higher frequency of migraine headache than control individuals (16% vs. 5%; P less than .001). The incidence of migraine was significantly higher in those with a positive family history of migraine (odds ratio, 15.62; P = .001). Phonophobia frequency was very high in MD (88.4%: 54.5% in migraine subgroup and 89.6% in nonmigraine cases) and without any correlation with migraine (P = .064).

Study detail: This descriptive cross-sectional comparative study included 69 patients with MD and 60 healthy controls.

Disclosures: The study was funded by Guilan University of Medical Sciences, Deputy of Research and Technology. The authors declared no conflicts of interest.
